DULWICH

Retaining charm and character

The windows in Magda’s substantial property in Dulwich were in a poor state of repair when she approached Timber Windows. On visiting the house, Duncan knew that the project would take time, as there were lots of different aspects to consider. But Magda was more than happy to be patient and have all the windows replaced at the same time, as she knew it would transform the look of the house.

One of the most challenging parts of the installation was the repair and replacement of the hall window. Five panes of glass were removed and the window was boarded up temporarily. A new sealed unit was crafted with oak moulding in the same style as the original. We also repaired the rebate to the new sealed unit.

In all, two large bay windows and eight flush sash casement windows were replaced and we worked closely with the local planning authority to ensure the new windows exactly matched the originals. This was important to keep the original character of the property and to maintain visual uniformity of the houses on the estate.

The project took more than three months to complete, but we were very proud of the results and the homeowner was delighted. We recently revisited the property and - ten years later - the windows look as good as the day they were installed.
